How do I choose the right keywords for my content?
SEO starts with using the right keywords for your content. You want to reach as many people as possible, but for that to happen, you need to make sure that the right people end up on your website.
High search volume & low competition
First of all, your keyword (or keyword phrase) should be an accurate description of your content. This way, the search engines understand what your web page is about, so they know to present it to people searching for your topic.
Secondly, you want to find out what words people are using when searching for something related to your content. An important factor to keep in mind is the search volume.
When many people are searching for a specific keyword or keyword phrase, this means you can reach many potential visitors when you have a high ranking for these search terms.
In contrast, when only a few people search the web using your keywords, the potential number of visitors is limited – even when your content is fully optimized and you rank number 1.
Another thing to keep track of is what your competition is doing. If you use a keyword that is also used on many other web pages, this means there will be a lot of competition. Ranking high in the search results will therefore be more difficult.
The best keywords are the ones with high search volume and low competition. When that is the case, the search engines are more likely to recommend your site to the people who are looking for info on a certain topic using your keywords.
Can I choose more than one keyword to focus my content on?
You can only choose one main keyword in Textmetrics, but you can add supporting keywords (synonyms) to optimize for as well.
Synonym literally means “word with (almost) the same meaning.” Synonyms can also be related to search results. For example, when you search for the word “pictures,” a related search result could be “photos.” When choosing keywords for your website, it is very important to consider the corresponding synonyms of the keyword and how well they will fit into your web content.
You can add your keywords directly in the editor. Click the keywords field, below the title and description of your page.
Alternatively, select the Optimize tab on the right to enter your keywords.
